‘FÓRUM NADA NOVO’, a project developed over 8 months in 2023/24, ends with the event that gave it its name.
It joins together the elements created throughout the project, —workshops, exhibitions and conversations— and, in the 'FÓRUM', built collectively in the workshop ‘PEÇAS RESGATADAS: PRÁTICAS CONCEPTUAIS E CONSTRUTIVAS’ (RESCUED PIECES: CONCEPTUAL AND CONSTRUCTIVE PRACTICES), collective exchanges are promoted on the role of reuse in a sustainable future.
The agents involved throughout the project are invited (team, participants, partners, suppliers of materials for reuse and others who joined the process), architects who address the topic of reuse in their practice, researchers and teachers in the area of architecture and engineering, and the general public.
The CONVERSATIONS focus on the themes that emerged throughout the process: ‘Mines’, ‘Aesthetics and Techniques’ (formal and informal), and ‘Pedagogies and Equity’, provoking the opposition of conflicting approaches and opinions. It is within the divergences between the different actors in the process of incorporating components for reuse in architecture practice that bridges need to be built, that we demand are built.
The programme is complemented by the development of MINI-WORKSHOPS on exploring/building with surplus/used construction materials, aimed at children and young people, where they reflect on the consumption of materials.
This final event of ‘FÓRUM NADA NOVO’, in the form of an informal and relaxed social gathering, takes place in Azevedo, Campanhã, at ADEGA - PELE (a locally active cultural association), partner of the project. In this area of the city of Porto, while being confronted with profound social inequalities, we witness processes of strong urban regeneration with large-scale new construction and rehabilitation works that displace enormous quantities of materials and construction components. Provocatively, attention is drawn to the need for development that incorporates the social and environmental potential of reuse.
